I use a few different trauma-informed approaches:
Nervous System Regulation / Somatic:
Triggers and stressors can come out of nowhere, often derailing relationships and your life in general. I can help you manage those intense reactions in the moment through simple techniques you can do anywhere. We can also expand your awareness of what’s underneath those triggers, so you can spend more of your life feeling on top of your thoughts, emotions and actions.
Couples (Gottman, EFCT, IFIO):
I draw on approaches like Emotion Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT), Gottman (Levels 1& 2), and IFIO (IFS for couples) for all my partnerships. I like to strike a balance between offering some quick fixes alongside doing deeper explorations to uncover unhelpful patterns that might be driving long-term dissatisfaction. Whether it’s stopping all the fighting, wondering where the sex went, or getting back on the same page so you can get excited about stuff again, this work is my passion.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
IFS compassionately honours the ways different parts of you have carried or adapted to past difficulties. It allows you to tend to old hurts, stay centred and choose a way forward that feels empowered and authentic. Note: I’m one of few therapists with Level-1 training from the official IFS Institute, as well as other IFS training, which can be a key distinction for some.
Emotion-Focused / Attachment / Psychodynamic:
We can take a thoughtful, safe look back at how things like upbringing, abuse, birth order, old timey gender roles, childhood trauma or substance use might have shaped you in ways you want to shed. This includes understanding your connection with early caregivers as well as how emotions get felt and expressed (or not) as you move through the world.
Systems / Queer / Feminist:
I have a staunchly anti-oppressive lens through which I see the world and our places in it. I appreciate that people enter therapy with different experiences related to racial, gender, social, cultural, ableist, religious and/or socio-economic expectations — and those realities will be acknowledged and accommodated as we work together.
